Avoid painkillers:

Taking common painkillers for as little as a week can dramatically increase the risk of dying, research shows.

Patients recovering from heart attacks who take drugs like ibuprofen for even a short time are at increased risk of another attack. Scientists analyzed the duration of prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Nsaids) treatment and cardiovascular risk in patients.

They found the use of the high-dose painkillers was associated with a 45%  increased risk of death or recurrent heart attack within as little as a week. The risk rose to 55% if treatment was extended to three months. (source: Journal of the American Heart Association)

Steven Marcus MD (executive director of New Jersey Poison Information and Education System) says: "Painkiller overdosing is the most common cause of liver failure in the US. So try to avoid those OTC drugs and never even think to drink alcohol and taking painkillers if your liver is important to you."

So was that enough to convince you if not completely stop at least drastically decrease painkillers intake?!

Fight the PMS!

For ladies : Women maybe at slower at tackling new tasks when ovulating because oestrogen could interfere with the brain's learning center and derail the ability to focus, says Dr. Wayne Brakeauthor of a study in Brain and Cognition.

If you asked me I'd say to get even more persistent over menstruation and do your best both in the kitchen & gym.

Little advice: If you have painful PMS considering to take 1000 mg calcium and 250 mg magnesium per day is a savvy decision according to GlaxoSmithKline. Also, in a recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported, that an increase in thiamine and riboflavin can decrease symptoms of PMS considerably.

To isolate your biceps (though I'm against isolation in most of the cases) perform the regular barbell curls while standing your back against the wall. Make sure to "stick" your triceps and back on the wall while curling. The infamous "arm-blaster" has the very same effect, promoted by Arnold back in the golden age. You will be able to use less weights though, but the pumped feeling and isolated shock in your biceps will compensate the lack of big(ger) weights.

Chose the best veggies:

What I recommend to all my clients is to increase the concumption of cruciferous veggies (i.e. broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sproutts, kohl-rabi, etc.) According to my experiences with clients they tend to eat too less from those. Make sure to eat at least once in a week from them. Doing this, could lower tthe risk of cancer, various studies say.

Boost up your leg training:

To fire up your leg training, perform barbell lunges with moderated weights and instead of put back the bar on the rack, start to do immediately regular squats with the same weight.

To make it even harder (only 4 advanced folks), start with lateral lunges, then regular lunges and finally the squats. Your legs will beg for mercy, I can guarantee! What is better, it boosts your metabolism and promote crazy muscle growth!

Did you say breakfast?!

In order to support your digestion I usually recommend a good probiotic - prebiotic combo.

This way their effects are multiplying. My all-time best is kephir (or natural organic yogurt) plus a banana and some banana flavored protein powder (or of course whatever flavor you like ;) ) along with raw oatmeal. Let the oat dwell in the kephir for 30 minutes so it will become softer. Perfect dish with all the needed macronutrients.

Food for thought:

Sumo wrestlers are unarguably the masters of how to gain weight fast. Their tactic is to skip breakfast and eat two enormous meal per day.

Respect your mouth & your eyes

Its a trick commonly used by me with clients who have hard time to understand the importance of proper nutrition: Before eat anything just ask yourself: "Will it be useful for my physical aims? Will it support my efforts toward a better body or just pulling back from it?"

Develop a positive attitude where every bit of food must get permission to enter your mouth! That is why I'm often stressing: Respect your mouth!

What about the eyes? Well, read the original sources of the information, rather the copies! ;)

Get your child to be active:

According to a YMCA study parents have hard time to promote healthy activities with their child(ren).

The numbers in the survey are warning: 74% of the children between the ages 5-10 don't get the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day & 42% of parents say there are too many technological distractions to achieving a healthful lifestyle for their children.

It's one more reminder for the parents - be active, train, give your children the example! Specially at early age they copy all from their parents, show them and they'll follow!

Allergies:

Did you know that cosmetics (fragrances and preservatives in them), cellphones and jewelry (because of their nickel component) and tattoos (esp. darker dyes) could also cause allergic reactions?

Keep that in mind and specially before making a tattoo!

Obesity gets more and more dangerous:

Senior voices from within the US armed forces have said that obesity threatens the future health of the nation and the strength of the military; the number of potential recruits failing the physical exam because they’re overweight has jumped a staggering 70% since 1995.

"How about that?" - have said one very common hero. We no longer hear for obesity here and there, it took the dramatic spin of calling it disease..

I never get tired of repeating that as it's really crucial!

Did you know that dehydration is far the biggest hurdle when it comes to strength?!

To make sure to drink enough, I fill my container with pure water in the morning and drink it until I go to bed. This amount is somewhere between 7-12 liters per day depending on the weather, activity level of mine, etc. A good rule of thumb is to drink 1litre of pure water per 20 bodykilograms (0,25 gallon/44 bodypounds).

So after you read this go and drink water!

Why nettle? Find out:

Did you know that to prevent hair loss you should look for shampoos with nettle extract. The roots and leaves of that herb contain a hormone which can help prevent testosterone from converting into DHT, which is a contributor  to balding in men.

Here's my idea: now the nettle is growing in its best. The leaves are dark green and fresh (the first ones for the year) which means they consist the highest amount of iron now, compared to the same plant at the summer. So if you can go out, supply yourself with some fresh nettle, steam it in hot water for few minutes and then pour your head with the colored water. You'll be amazed of the effect it will have on your hair.

Not to mention the benefits of drinking the nettle tea or using the nettle in soups and salads.. Amazing herb!!

P.S. To prevent dullness of your razor always dry it after use. When water sits on the blades, it causes corrosion which will lead to pulling and tearing of the hair at the next application.

If you got articulates in pain it'd be tempting to stop moving and exercising.

Take a rest if needed, but exercising on a regular basis will keep your muscles, tendons and ligaments strong and the bones healthy.

Gluten-free

Royal diet unveiled --> there is no new under the sun!

The brand new fad in the diet industry is the one, which supposedly helped Mrs. William Prince (Kate Middleton :) ) to lose weight. It is the so-called Dukan diet.

To make a long story short it is based on the deprivation of carbs (in the beginning) as it is, it fails to notice that deprivation of any from the

3 basic food groups could not be suitable for the human body. Eating those 3 groups (picked from 1st quality sources) in a particular ratio tailored to your demands combined with proper training is the way. Sorry Mr. Dukan, may be next time.

Strawberry mania

100 gr strawberries (about 10 pieces) usually contain 0g fat, 27calories and about 60 mg of vit C (which is not bad for starter, but usually we need more despite to the FDA suggestions). Furthermore, strawberries contain considerable amounts of omega 3 fatty acids and folic acid.

Look for unblemished, bright red berries which leaves are fresh-looking and green.

Try to avoid too hard or soft ones. Strawberries are tend to absorb H2O, thus always hull after washing.

Make sure to eat or serve them at room temperature. For extra aromas and taste, expose the strawberries to sunlight and serve after it.

Strawberries may keep frozen 2-3 days depending on the type and the time of the year.

To save them for the longest time in your kitchen spread them out on a plate and cover with paper towels, then put them in the fridge.

It is crucial to clean them right before consumption. If you got deep-frozen ones, their texture will likely be spoiled so it hardly could be used for decoration but pulping or used in smoothies.

What to train first?!

To bring up your weaker bodyparts train them first in your training regime when you're fresh and full of energy.

Focus on those muscle groups with maximum effort while only doing "maintaining training" for the other body parts.

To build a perfectly balanced and developed physique is a long process and that's the shortest way to do.

Don't start your trainings with cardio!

Did you know that many trainees turning completely upside down their efforts in the gym while starting out with the cardio part?

Make sure that - after a proper warmup - start out with resistance training and only (if needed) apply cardio movements!

Circle trainings? Why not!

Did you know that circle trainings could be very useful for combat athletes (boxing, tae kwon do, kick boxing, etc.) in off season because with that kind of training one can perform lots of exercises within short time frame?

The importance of training your legs properly!

Do you train properly your legs?

Most of the people won't perform heavy basic leg trainings! Both men and women tend to concentrate a lot more on their upper body.

Some that go in the gym do it mostly for cardio and using machines... The minority will apply heavy ass basic exercises yet most of them disregard the smaller body parts like hams and calves.

They usually overemphasize the training of thighs while left the hams and calves almost untouched.

Training your legs adequately is extremely important! They're the foundations of the body, thus you need to develop and train them properly!

And don't forget: apply exercises for your hams and shank muscles as well as for your thighs! Overdeveloped thighs at the expense of untouched hams and calves doesn't bring you only disproportion but may lead to future injuries. Do not turn on A/C immediately as soon as you enter the car!

There were some researches done, which proved that the car dashboard, sofa, air fresheners, emits Benzene, a cancer causing toxin (carcinogen- take note of the heated plastic smell in your car). Addition to causing cancer, it poisons your bones ,may causes anemia, and reduces white blood cells. Prolonged exposure may cause leukemia, increasing the risk of cancer, may also cause miscarriage.

The advice is just to open the windows after you enter your car and do not turn ON the air-conditioning immediately.

Asparagus against cancer!

I came across an article I'd like to share with You! It's possible that you have already read it or heard of it, but it definitely worth attention!

It's entitled, "Asparagus for cancer"  printed in Cancer News Journal, December 1979.

Lets read it:

"I am a biochemist,and have specialized in the relation of diet to health for over 50 years.

Several years ago, I learned of the discovery of Richard R.Vensal, D.D.S. that asparagus might cure cancer. Since then, I have worked with him on his project.. We have accumulated a number of favorable case histories.

Here are a few examples:

Case № 1,

A man with an almost hopeless case of Hodgkin's disease (cancer of the lymph glands) who was completely incapacitated. Within 1 year of starting the asparagus therapy, his doctors were unable to detect any signs of cancer, and he was back on a schedule of strenuous exercise.

Case № 2,

A successful businessman 68 years old who suffered from cancer of  the bladder for 16 years. After years of medical treatments,including radiation without improvement, he went on asparagus. Within 3 months, examinations revealed that his bladder tumor had disappeared and that his kidneys were normal.

Case № 3,

A man who had lung cancer. On March 5th 1971, he was put on the operating table where they found lung cancer so widely spread that it was inoperable. The surgeon sewed him up and declared his case hopeless. On April 5th he heard about the asparagus therapy and immediately started taking it. By August, x-ray pictures revealed that all signs of the cancer had disappeared. He is back at his regular business routine. *

*Case № 4,

A woman who was troubled for a number of years with skin cancer. She finally developed different skin cancers which were diagnosed by asking specialist as advanced. Within 3 months after starting on asparagus, her skin specialist said that her skin looked fine and no more skin lesions. This woman reported that the asparagus therapy also cured her kidney disease, which started in 1949. She had over 10 operations for kidney stones, and was receiving government disability payments for an inoperable, terminal, kidney condition. She attributes the cure of this kidney trouble entirely to the asparagus.

I was not surprised at this result, as "The elements of Materia Medica", edited in 1854 by a Professor at the University of   Pennsylvania , stated that asparagus was used as a popular remedy for kidney stones. He even referred to experiments, in 1739, on the power of asparagus in dissolving stones.

We would have other case histories but the medical establishment has interfered with our obtaining some of the records. I am therefore appealing to readers to spread this good news and help us to gather a large number of case histories that will overwhelm the medical skeptics about this unbelievably simple and natural remedy. For the treatment, asparagus should be cooked before using, and therefore canned asparagus is just as good as fresh.

* *  PROCEDURE:

1) Place the cooked asparagus in a blender and liquefy to make a puree, and store in the refrigerator.

2) Give the patient 4 full tablespoons twice daily, morning and evening.

Patients usually show some improvement in from 2-4 weeks. It can be diluted with water and used as a cold or hot drink. This suggested dosage is based on present experience, but certainly larger amounts can do no harm and may be needed in some cases.

As a biochemist I am convinced of the old saying that "what cures can prevent". Based on this theory, my wife and I have been using asparagus puree as a beverage with our meals.  We take 2 tablespoons diluted in water to suit our taste with breakfast and with dinner. I take mine hot and my wife prefers hers cold.

For years we have made it a practice to have blood surveys taken as part of our regular checkups.

The last blood survey, taken by a medical doctor who specializes in the nutritional approach to health, showed substantial improvements in all categories over the last one, and we can attribute these improvements to nothing but the asparagus drink...

Chicken Wings - Its Dangerous

Avoid eating chicken wings frequently - ladies, especially!

A lady had a growth in her womb and she underwent an operation to remove a cyst.

The cyst removed was filled with a dark colored blood. She thought that she would recover after the surgery but she was terribly wrong.

A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas.  He said the expression "going bananas" is from the effects of bananas on the brain.  Read on:
